Umberto Lenzi's Seven Blood-Stained Orchids (1972) is sometimes seen as a very late krimi but it's more of a giallo. It was based on Cornell Woolrich’s novel Rendezvous in Black. It's fairly clued and it ticks the right giallo boxes.

Bruno Mattei’s Shocking Dark (AKA Terminator II, 1989) manages to be a rip-off Aliens, Terminator and Alien. It's not so much an homage as grand larceny. Which is fine by me. I love these Italian rip-off movies and this one is great fun.

Sorry to learn of the passing of Italian film director, #RuggeroDeodato. Whilst his career spanned a wide-range of genres from peplum to poliziottesco and gialli, he will undoubtedly always be best remembered for his #HorrorMovies - in particular two of the most notorious "Video Nasties", House on the Edge of the Park and the endlessly contentious, yet undeniably influential, Cannibal Holocaust (both 1980).

One of my favorites written by the progressive rock band Goblin, known for their collaborations with Dario Argento.

The theme is haunting and ominous yet super catchy and whenever I hear it I'm overwhelmed by the impulse to chant along out loud with it like some demented child who was dropped on his head one too many times.

I am a fan of people's faces in films. Uglier, craggier the better. They tell thousands of untold stories on their own. And they leave lasting impressions long after I forget the plot of the films they peek their heads in. Same here in The Tale of King Crab, by documentary filmmakers Alessio Rigo de Righi and Mateo Zoppis, trying their hands on fiction - a hybrid of documentary elements with fictional retelling of a folklore or two. Naked Girl Murdered in the Park (1972) certainly has a title that will get your attention. It also suggests you’re about to see a giallo. It is, sort of. It's crazy enough to be a giallo.

In fact it's an Alfonso Brescia movie. He made some of the most gloriously insane movies of all time. This is one of his less crazy efforts but it's pretty enjoyable.
