Dear #lazyweb of #developers on #MacOS: I have configured #iterm to appear using a hot key, but the terminal window seems to always attach to a specific virtual desktop, and if I’m on another one when I press the hot key, it’ll take me back to that desktop :/ Is there any way to have the terminal window always open on the same desktop I am at?

okay i am still baffled by this. for some reason when i'm in a local shell/terminal window i can render emoji and unicode chars fine. e.g. `ƒ` `•`
but when i ssh to another machine and view the same directories they don't render chars correctly and i can't figure out why it's rendering wrong only after i leave localhost! they look good in finder #zsh #iterm
they're looking great in Finder, DEVONthink, etc. folder sync in this screenshot is via #resilio but like i said looks right on-host.
Someone (I?) should write a web app where you quickly can cycle through and compare #iTerm color schemes.
TIL you can customize (with high precision) exactly how double-click selection works in #iterm
For instance, (by default) double clicking a string surrounded by quotes selects the contents _and_ the quotes. I just wanted the contents and was able to adjust that.
Very cool!
Here's a nice #iTerm tip: to open a file's enclosing folder with cmd-click (instead of iTerm2's default behaviour to open the file itself) choose under Profiles > Advanced > Semantic History the option "Run command..." with the following:
open "`dirname \1`"
😎👍
I’ve been enjoying writing #powershell on my mac. Very similar experience to on Windows.
My only bug bear is the terminal in #VSCode cannot be #iterm. So my nice formatting etc just isn’t there 😭

New blog post: Scripting iTerm Key Mappings
https://jeroenjanssens.com/itermkeymap/
To improve my iTerm+tmux experience, I’ve set up a whole bunch of key mappings. Rather than defining these manually, I wrote a Python script to generate the corresponding JSON programmatically.

Is anyone else using #warpTerminal? I'm loving the ability to jump back a command block at a time, particularly for debugging large outputs. I'm annoyed that I can't use Vi keyboard shortcuts, though, as I can in #iterm #warp #iterm2

OMG! 🤩
I'm such a sucker for good UI/UX and design, and these alternative #KittyTerminal icons are too cute. Especially the white cat on the ADM-3A terminal is too cute to resist.
I am halfway through the Kitty terminal docs, and I'm pretty sure I'll consider Kitty a replacement for #iterm.
Thank you, @jessarcher for your #LaraCasts course on #neovim and introducing Kitty!

Thursday morning, and I'm not working, but reading into and playing with #KittyTerminal.
I am a long-time user of #iTerm and like it, but I heard and read of fellow developers running on Kitty, so it's time to give it a try.
My first impression is very positive. Kitty uses so little resources, it does not even show up in my top 5 processes on #macOS when I run it.
The configuration is very granular and well commented. Best feature for me so far, a built-in TUI themes browser.
A few years back an #AppleScript action I was using to open #iTerm in a selected Finder window broke. I’ve just got around to find out why. Needs a brand new script https://gist.github.com/pdanford/158d74e2026f393e953ed43ff8168ec1

I wrote this awhile ago but may be useful to some people. How to source environment variables from 1Password in your terminal!

I've been using this term for a couple of years already and I just found out today about this ... it's amazing what new things you discover while looking through the docs lmao
Alacritty now supports scrollback, https://jwilm.io/blog/alacritty-lands-scrollback/.
But that's not the biggest news. The 0.2 version is _fast_, like _really fast_.
