We took the same problems we had with serial vs SCSI vs parallel port vs USB-A vs Firewire and smushed them all into one connector, USB-C, with like a dozen different standards (USB 2.0, USB 3.x [which is like 5 different things on its own], USB 4, TB 3, TB 4) and now you just throw money at cable roulette until you either find one that works or you build a shack in the woods and start writing a manifesto.

TIL you can't have "natural" scrolling for the macOS ventura trackpad, and legacy scrolling for the mouse. that's how i've always had them set, but i went a long time without a mouse. when i finally plugged one back in - having gone from big sur to ventura - i've spent my day chasing after wrong-way windows. there still are separate switches in the mouse and trackpad control panels, but now they change the same setting and can't be different

If you're experiencing stuck iCloud Drive sync, using `$ killall bird` can be helpful. When my Obsidian notes became unsynchronized between Mac and iPhone, this quickly resolved the issue without the need for tedious iCloud signouts and signins. #itjustworks

This is really starting to annoy me and I can’t work out the cause or the fix. A small subset of notifications are always showing in a “no-preview” mode. Default is always show; the affected apps are always show; no focus mode is at play. I’ve tried toggling all the things and still nah.

Notifications for the same apps preview fine on the iPhone and the Macs.

By just inputting the SID and blanking all the other fields custom services can indeed be removed. I probably made some typo the first time around. My Mastodon client was not willing to let me copy the info and a phone might not be the best device for avoiding typos.

Anyway, it really works. Current artist and song are also shown correctly. Life will be much better from now on! #SomaFM #ItJustWorks

Apple introduced Screen Time in iOS 12 (if memory serves) and they continue to let it rot. I use it for my kids phones to try to put some guardrails on their experience and my wife uses it to try to ensure she goes to sleep instead of doom-scrolling.

If I try to change the Downtime time, sometimes it takes 4 or 5 tries as it keeps resetting to the previous value. Likewise, Always Allowed apps are spontaneously removed sometime after being added.
