Marketing comes back a day later... "Can you do your 301 thing again with another of our our printed QR code links to another company's site so they point it to the right place because ours isn't found."

There's so many free plugins for a certain CMS that the Marketing Manager's "surely there's a solution already built we can use" answer to all web development will work this time too even though they are also insisting the thing's functionality is unique to our customers. #ITProblems

Sounds like one of our marketing managers is using ChatGPT to write web content and cancelled most of the writer's contracts but hired one new one as an #SEO expert because they insist they can outsmart the Google algorithms by tweaking a few AI generated phrases.
The marital relationship of the SEO expert wouldn't be of influence would it? Hard times. Look after you're own is it? #ITProblems

Your #SEO expert will lie to your marketing manager saying they need root admin access to your company web site. Your marketing manager will trust them completely because they are offering a fool proof way to increase sales which makes marketing look great! If the marketer's IT decline, the SEO expert's next route is to complain the site is slow so Google is negatively ranking you and they happen to design & host sites. #B2BSales #ITProblems

IT Project manager thinks because we have a certain domain name, we logically also host the web site behind it & they want edit access ASAP. Like the domain name, registrar, nameserver or DNS is access to the web server file system or CMS? How do these people get into management positions? #ITProblems

So I get to work and am working along okay. I also start to put a 1TB ssd in a computer and install windows and office.

Then the vet clinic calls. That damn printer was not printing again. Somehow it got removed from the share. 😡 So now I have to go back, spent almost 4hrs again. Although, this time installed a print server so it would have its own IP. Reset them up, edited their program for new printer.

Should be good now. Lol.

Today, I'm doing some maintenance on a few servers, migrating a couple of #CentOS to #FreeBSD, and an old #Linux firewall with #iptables (done manually) to #OpenBSD with #pf.

Some users (myself included) have noticed that the FreeBSD Fortune bot tends to repost the same advice frequently. According to my statistical calculations, it should repost the same fortune every 4/5 days, but in reality, there seems to be very little randomization. The output is generated directly from the 'fortune(6)' command on FreeBSD, so for now, I'll let it be. In the end, it's one post per hour, so it shouldn't 'spam' too much.

Yesterday was a crazy day! I started the day just needing to move two computers at a clients here in my town before heading to work (which is about 30 mins away).

I ended up being there 4 hrs! They are still running Windows 7 on most computers in their office with a few Windows 10. That's a pain in the ass. The Zebra label maker needed to be on a Win 7 machine and then shared to Win 10 machines. Then the vet software on each computer needed updated for the new shared label maker.

Yes "SEO expert" we've said repeatedly so don't complain now that the Google Analytics are a lot lower because devs implemented respectful GDPR that doesn't load the damn thing when people say no. Why do you pretend you are gathering important statistical information about visitors & potential customers? Your metrics just tell marketing when visits improve because of some magic you did then complain it's devs fault when visits go down #ITProblems

B2B marketers here are still trying to automate their corporate sales case studies & news to Twitter, if WordPress plugin developers only have it as a pro feature, now that the API isn't free, it must be worth money & that must be more worthwhile & therefore must engage more valuable social media citizens who, while inside their social town square, may notice us & think of using us on their employers behalf & introduce us to a major contract. Some people don't really engage online in the same way as others. Completely oblivious even. Focus on the free marketing opportunity they gave you. The first thing this developer does is turn 2FA off on the site they're working on because it too much hassle when sharing their login with colleagues instead of giving them their own accounts. We should also have a means of pre-allowing the IP address of the cafe they are working on on a particular day to mitigate the angry "I'm locked out" phone calls. #ITProblems
