Cifer update. Some progress (sort of). The hard disk did not spin up. After a bit of faffing I realised the flywheel on the bottom of the drive was seized. A few gentle rocks and it was free. The video is my second attempt at spinning it up, the first failed as it partially spun up then spun down with a 'motor' error. Excuse my exclamation at the end ... (solid light means drive ready).
