#ItsAlwaysDNS, isn’t it?
Having changed nothing, from 0935 today it appears that Quad 9 can’t resolve the location of my media storage for this instance, hosted on IDrive e2.
Thankfully I’m not running a museum-worthy version of Nginx, so I can configure multiple resolvers in the proxy to fix this (and should have done from day one to be honest). But why today? So strange.
Das Gefühl, wenn im Monitoring plötzlich alles rot wird und Du dann feststellst, dass es doch wieder nur der DNS-Server war. #itsalwaysdns
When the hotel router provided dns is not resolving their captive portal, and the hotel staff keeps insisting that the problem is ios not allowing WPA2 connections. Sigh.

Welp, figured out why my Uptime Kuma container was getting such a high ping time to, well, everything.
Hint. It was DNS. It's always DNS.
Now to figure out how to fix. It across *every* container I run on this server in a sensible fashion - because they're all broken in the same way and I hadn't realised. I really don't want to add every single one to the DNS stacks default network.

It is strange to me that we(work) receives more email with dkim signatures then correct SPF configuration... 😐 #ItsAlwaysDNS
Naturally, I managed to somehow fuck up the DNS for my hisaac.net email address. I didn’t get any emails for the entire day. Maybe a win? #ItsAlwaysDNS
Don't blame it on the DHCP
Don't blame it on the BGP
Don't blame it on the OSPF
Blame it on the DNS

@benjaminhollon, how the heck did I beat you to it?!?
Also, why aren't you in bed?!? Oh wait... that's ME. %}
If it’s #AlwaysDNS, then why are there so few posts under the #ItsAlwaysDNS hashtags? Huh??
It gives you some more time to find unregistered domains you like..
DNS gremlins strike again.
2 hour app goose chase that ends with 'aw shucks guys: we updated something DNS and that was the cause!"
I'm running #pihole in recursive #DNS mode and having everything in my home and my public /29 use it as the main DNS server.
The good things? Ad/tracker blocking on things that don't have built in ad/tracker blocking like certain phone apps, less spam (I host my main mail server locally), reduced monitoring from my Internet provider.
The bad things? Single point of failure. If pihole is down, everything else is as well.

Today I learned, for the hundredth time that if there is a *timeout error* in the #cloud it's always a bloody Security Group. Always!
...The Security Group didn't allow reaching the DNS server (does that make this an #itsAlwaysDNS issue?).

So I wake up this morning to a push notification from my NAS telling me the offsite backup failed overnight.
Naturally I made some firewall and networking changes yesterday evening so I instantly think I've stuffed something up with that.
But no! I have not. The problem is something I didn't touch ... DNS!
Because it's always DNS!

Attention, junior #software #developers
Despite appearances, #cynicism and #experience are not interchangeable.
Your more senior fellow team members developed the former while accumulating the latter. Your turn will come.

Aaaa damn, _of course_ I need to allow TCP/53 (not only UDP/53) to make DNS zone file transfers work 🤦♂️.
Cost me way too much time ... 😶

Drei Sekunden für einen DNS-Lookup? Irgendwie hat meine Fritz-Box oder meine DSL-Leitung ein Problem, glaube ich.

Saw a rumor about TWTTR hiding reply targets, went to look, and it’s broken. Nothing but a bluebird. Safari tells me that there are a bunch of unavailable JavaScript map files referenced, all hosted on ton.local.twitter.com, a hostname which does not resolve. This proves that I do not understand what JavaScript map files are, because I thought they were not needed at runtime unless you needed to deconvolute minified files for debugging… Anyway:
