When I encouraged my students in a packed classroom to attend every other class via zoom to reduce density during the pandemic, my dean gave me a dressing-down for "insubordination". When I made zoom lectures available to students who couldn't come to class, he ordered me to stop.

Now I have COVID. My dean is my chair. When faced with having to find someone to teach my classes in my absence he said, "no problem, just do zoom classes until you're better."
