Die-hard #Putin fans now go to great lengths to explain that #IvanGolunov was framed by some lower-rank local official without any knowledge of the President. Don't know how abuse of the police and the legal system to plant drugs with a journalist and frame him to jail him after is supposed to make look #Russia better if it only happens on a regional scale. Incompatible with both #mediafreedom and #RuleOfLaw.

All charges against investigative journalist #IvanGolunov have been dropped in #Russia. The whole thing looks like a set-up with planted drugs to silence a critic of the #Kremlin. But of course the Russian police found time to abuse and hurt Golunov while he was in detention. #Putin dark empire, no place for #mediafreedom.

The injuries of #IvanGolunov, an investigative journalist critical of the #Kremlin, clearly point at police #violence after his highly dubious arrest on drug dealing charges. Accepting #Russia back as a regular member of the #CouncilofEurope was a serious mistake. #humanrights and #mediafreedom are under constant attack in #Putin's dark empire. Time to put even harder sanctions on Russia.
