#Iwatched #PointBreak (19991) and it has huge plot huge holes, frequently embarrassing dialogue and is overloaded with action scenes. But it's hard to deny that Kathryn Bigelow had a good story and a charismatic lead with Patrick Swayze. For a more coherent story and stylistically satisfying work of her I'd recommend Near Dark (1987) though.
#Iwatched #Tombstone (1993) and it tried way too hard to mythologize its characters for little reason. The Earp brothers' enemies are little more than a bullish nuisance and gun fodder for stylized montages. Wives are garnish, Wyatt wears heavy plot armour and his extra-marital romance falls flat. There are valiant acting efforts by Kurt Russell and especially Val Kilmer as TB diseased Doc Holliday) who eventually sums up the moral of the story: Bad guys want revenge for being born. Enough said.
#iwatched Wizard of Oz (with Pink Floyd's Dark side of the Moon and without it)
It looks great but the movie is very, very cynical. They deconstruct the fairytale without any care for the magic. Hard to watch the Wizard scenes, especially his final zingers.
And I'm not convinced about the Pink Floyd bit. The song timing hits right only for two or three songs, and the music style is really off.
#iwatched Twilight for the first time.
It's… surprisingly decent, silly but watchable. A typical B-movie in a sudden popularity spotlight. And the adaptation is really good with foreshadowing.
I think it has that modern gothic vibe, where they tried to make a new aesthetic and it didn't quite work out. But it's very interesting that Twilight's Edward doesn't look like a typical Hollywood lead - hell, the other vampires are more Tom Cruise-y than him.
The sequel's a pure mindless trash tho.
#iwatched Little Hours
It's fun if you like your comedy weird and don't care about the jokes. It could be something more if the movie was a bit more stylized, a bit more historically accurate (or at least caring enough about historical accuracy to have more renaissance jokes). The shots look like from an ad ("Join our convent, we are fun and weird"), the robes are so white.
Hard to pinpoint what was the film going for, hard to say who is it for, but it's good for an evening and that's that.
