The huge mosaic stage curtain in #MexicoCity ’s Palace of Fine Arts was created by #Tiffany Studios in New York City from 1909 to 1911. It weighs approximately 22 tons and contains more than one million pieces of iridescent crystal depicting the two most famous volcanoes that surround Mexico City: #Popocatepetl (smoky mountain) and #Iztaccihuatl (white woman). It is the only curtain of its kind in the world.

The mural of #Popocatepetl and #Iztaccihuatl at the National Museum of Mexican Art. According to the folktale, the princess Iztaccihuatl took her life after learning that the warrior Popoca died in battled. However, Popoca hadn't died. He returned to find her body converted into a massive, snow-capped #volcano. Kneeling beside her, he became Popocatepetl, smoking mountain. Glowing at the summit and throwing an occasional volcanic fit, Popocatepetl watches over Iztaccihuatl and #Mexico City.
