Boosts welcome! I'm trying to use a rpi as a usb midi host. Has anyone experience with this? I've tried using blokas "patch os" and midi routing with modep. Unfortunately I had noticable delays (irregular hihat pattern)... I also tried routing directly with jack. And using a rpi 4 instead of a rpi 3. My goal is to control (and power) different hw synths with a squarp pyramid (also usb midi).

I'm currently using an old (but good!) firewire audio card in my studio and it's been working fine with #jackaudio + #ffado so far.

Pipewire looked like it didn't support firewire, but it now supports the old (somewhat broken) ALSA firewire driver that was fixed and merged into the 5.14 kernel:

Quite literally "dusted off" my KeyStation today. Wanted to use a #JACKaudio app with an #ALSA app together, so tried #PipeWire .

While I haven't dug into the technical trade-offs that must be there, this was super easy/convenient! Impressed so far!

If you are using #linux & #JackAudio, you can set #audacity to record directly from the PulseAudio Jack Sink. I just tried it and it worked, capturing the #jitsi conversation. Possibly it'd also work without Jack, though I cannot test that at the moment.

It took me years to understand and configure #JackAudio correctly. Years mostly because I was too lazy to sit down and learn how to do it. That being said, documentation, hints and other minutiae were (are still?) sparse. I still can't claim to be an expert, but with #Catia, #AjSnapshot and an initial script that sets everything in motion, I don't have to worry too much.

"Smarts", in my experience, is also a widely relative term.

I'm using #icecast and #darkice. It was very simple to set up. Well, not taking into account my #alsa / #JackAudio configuration, which wasn't simple to set up, actually.

As an aside, what sort of #Bose headphones do you have? I have a the crazy expensive sound cancelling ear-bud types that I use, though I prefer my #Bayerdynamic over the ears for mixing / serious listening at my computer.

Multitrack record and reinject [aka virtual soundcheck] for work on the live band sound without acoustic sound and discut about it with the band.
Also used for log some difficult musical sentence to work on later.

tout le monde impressionné par la technique, même les régisseurs du IN.
Vu de l'intérieur, manque encore un peu de stabilité, mais quand ça tourne c'est magique !
