The latest instalment in my series about my holiday in the Lake District, focussing on Wray Castle.

Looks like the #jackdaws that live in my chimney have fledged. After circling the garden, rather gingerly, as a group, they've taken to short flits from tree to tree, broken up by the occasional wider solo circuit. And all the while they call encouragement to each other. I feel like a proud dad.

My neighbour has stonecrop (Sedum spathulifolium) growing in her garden and the jackdaws pull pieces off, presumably looking for food, then leave them in my garden (crow-gifts!). I propagated a few on my kitchen window sill, and they took two years to sprout but they're thriving now so the jackdaws can pull pieces off mine too, lmao. Their native range is the west coast of North America from BC to Cali so they're in a pot in my garden and I don't have to water in summer or protect them from winter. My contented little buddies. @AdrianRiskin

#smartbirds #problemsolved I have a new #birdfeeder. Its squirrel proof and also jackdaw proof which is why i brought it. Put it up yesterday. Today I watched 4 jackdaws try to get seed from it. They failed. When I came home tonight it was on the ground and empty.
Eh??
I consulted the CCTV which happens to cover the feeder. Mid morning after the #jackdaws had given up a #Rook appeared. It examined the feeder and then carefully lifted it off its hook and dropped it. Rook + Jackdaws feasted!!

2. Get 2 balconies
3. Wait 5 minutes 🕰️
4. Enjoy 4 + types of #crows on both balconies … for about 5 mins
5. Change the locks cos the #rooks have picked them & are eating the contents of ur kitchen presses
6. make peace between #magpies & the rooks, #jackdaws & hooded crows who hate magpies
7. Cut a deal w the jackdaws - they’re the coolest - so u (& the magpies) can occasionally have balcony 2 to urself
8. Re-watch Hitchcock with new 👁️

@skorpio @roxiqt I've heard #jackdaws aren't into gift giving like #HoodedCrows and #magpies are. Befriending them is good, tho, as they tend to carry untergenerational crudges if they don't like you :artsweats:
