Played through all 72 levels of my game for the first time, today. There’s a bunch of rearranging to do (based on difficulty) but I was just impressed that I was able to play right through to the end without it breaking haha. Ok, so it broke when I finished the very last level, but other than that it was all good! πŸ˜€πŸ‘

Jack Dragon has little poetry cut-scene/static image bits to transition between background themes. I just made this image for a poem that'll take Jack from the day theme to a dawn theme. On that subject, the game takes place over 3 days. There are three sets of 24 game levels (not counting bonus/boss scenes) - each level representing an hour on his journey. Something I'm sure noone will ever notice lol

Today's Jack Dragon progress.. boss damage animation, health bar, death, lots of particles and a whole bunch of stuff you can't see like brief immunity after hitting a money bag and some other little timing things. It now feels like a good little battle, but I'll probably end up tweaking/tuning the timing in the future.

This is my first pass at the big bad boss of my game. Introducing.. the evil Lord Moneybags! Eventually, on the boss level I'll add money particles flying off all over the place when he moves around. I'll most likely shade him and add a few little details to his skin/bag, too.

Collision fail! Currently, I do a collision check upward from the left and right sides of the player, but that isn't stopping 1 tile platforms that fall between those points! Need to add a third check in the middle, methinks XD

I think I'm finally done with the final background for the game. I've reduced the colours to help the game level (foreground) stand out better, made the dragon head on the throne less scary and worked a bit more on the overall theme.. so here's the updated background graphic in a gif of a test level. I think I might be ready to crack on and build the final levels, now! πŸ‘ πŸ˜€

Oops.. my design for the final theme/background for my game Jack Dragon accidentally ended up a bit too heavy metal! I need to do another pass to cartoonify it.. right now it doesn’t exactly scream cartoony happy fun arcadey platformer does it? lol I just lost myself in its vibe today..

OK so this wasn't AT ALL what I was supposed to be making today, but I started jamming and it happened.. the old night time background was boring anyway, so it's a good replacement I think. I split this into two layers too, so I can put some nice animated twinkly stars in the background at runtime. With this out of my system, now maybe I can get back to working on the castle interior I was supposed to be making today??

This is the hardest level in my game. It looks perfectly fine, but it's evil. You can't go through bricks and other platforms are one-way only. The homing meanie can't get through platforms, so moving between top and bottom of the screen means luring the meanie to a side, then running the other way, avoiding two other ghost meanies who *can* go through platforms and dropping down and turning quick before octopus monster gets you. It's brutal!

More graphics. Today, I'm separating the castle from the sky background so I can layer it and have clouds breezing by in the background. I need to animate those flags too, because it feels a bit static and I do like little animations in the background to bring things to life. May also have to darken the colours on the castle a bit, as it's feel a little too intrusive to the foreground/game.

Multicoloured stars work better than just plain white ones. Now I need to stop tweaking the background graphics and get on with making more levels! 30 more to go..
