How transit shapes a neighborhood. Hyde Park was an undeveloped suburb when the street railways looked for opportunities, but it wasn't commuters that drew them south of the city. It was entertainment. The first tracks went to Washington Park and the racetrack. The second track cut over to the lake and the newly landscaped north end of Jackson Park. I guess there is a #Chicago contingent. I’ll post updates on the #JacksonPark #JapaneseGarden too. The snowdrops are up, the koi have risen from the mud, but no sign of the moon bridge replacement yet.

I don’t know if there’s much of a #chicago contingent here but I used to do a #cherryblossom watch on the bird app so I’ll do it here. #JacksonPark The trees have teeny tiny buds. My guess is late April, which is usual. There was one freak year when a long hot spell brought a March bloom. Not this year!

The large crowd of spectators on the lagoon ice, concentrate a lot of weight. In recent years, the lagoon doesn't ice over except for a thin skim that's just strong enough to hold a goose.
