I like this question, and I've thought about it for a few minutes. I will probably think about it more, but here's my initial input: "cut his buddy down" echoes the line "cut down a man in cold blood". Also " one man gone and another to go" I always took as the narrator is pursuing Jack to get revenge for Shannon's murder. Shannon's ghost is driving him onwards ("you keep us on the run"), though I am confused about the "us" in that line.
Who's of a mind that #JackStraw murdered Shannon when he cut him down and laid him in a shallow grave 1/2 a mile from Tucson?
And, who's of a mind that Jack cut Shannon down from the tree he was lynched from before burying him?
This has been another episode of #GratefulDead questions. Thanks for playing.
We’re driving back toward #Denver and 3yo #niece wants to play “Take Me Away” #music for the ride. None of us know what this means so there is a frantic attempt to sample various tracks from various genres, each of prompts a #wail of #despair. “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer” buys us a short #reprieve to reorient ourselves and finally my #sister flips through the #gratefuldead catalog, puts on #JackStraw and niece claps her hands, says let’s #rockandroll and proceeds to bob herself to sleep
