Of interest here in the former #Jacobite lands of Tynedale. Today is the anniversary of his raising of the standard at Glenfinnan in 1745 which launched the 2nd Jacobite Rebellion.

Eg fekk kanskje ikkje ta sjølve toget Harry og gjengen tok til Galtvang (Galtvort sin stasjon), men eg fekk besøkt stasjonen!

Etter at #Jacobite-turen ble avljost har me leita etter andre stilige veterantog. Me fann eit frå #Whitby som køyrar til Goathland! Stasjonen brukt som lokasjon for båe #MedHjartetPåRetteStaden og #HarryPotter.

Å få sjå damploket arbeide seg opp bakken til stasjonen var fantastisk og magisk.

På toget til Fort William kor me egenleg skulle tatt #Jacobite (😔).

Me hadde klart å sette oss i feil vogn (markert feil i følgje billetten vår, så føler ikkje det var vår feil) og ble nesten me vidare til Oban i staden for! Det er alltid spanande med tog som delar seg, håpar me sitt riktig no.

Er forøvrig det verste toget, kvalitetsmessig, så langt på turen. Scotsrail imponerar ikkje.

Sitter og er oppriktig lei meg i hotell-lobbyen i Llandudno. #Interrail-ferien vår var bygd opp rundt at me skulle ta #Jacobite-toget no på onsdag. Eg fekk billett på fyrste klasse til min 30-årsdag.

To dagar før toget skal gå, etter over 9 000 km med tog, får me beskjed utan vidare at toget er avljost utan noko moglegheit for alternativ.

I morgon ventar eit trist hotellrom i Fort William med utsikt over plattformen me ikkje får brukt. 😔

Even more fun was realizing how much better for it was a volume where we didn’t just submit individual essays but discussed among ourselves how we might ensure they gave our colleague something coherent as a whole and something worthwhile in its own right. It was a lovely reminder that while we might get strident at times (err, no, excuse me #JonathanSwift was absolutely not a #Jacobite, ever), those of us with an interest in the man, the politics, and the society of the time really do get on.

This tartan is for the #Scottish #Clan "Cameron of Lochiel."

Among its most notable Clan Chiefs is Donald Cameron, the 22nd Chief of the Camerons, known as "The Gentle Cameron." (Born 1695, died 1748.)

During the #JacobiteRebellion of 1745, he fought for the cause of #BonniePrinceCharlie, but showed great mercy to the defeated city of Glasgow, which the city still recognizes today.

The Chief earned the name "Gentle Lochiel" for having spared #Glasgow when the #Stuart army retreated north, and in gratitude the citizenry decreed that the bells of the #TolboothKirk should forever be rung whenever his descendants passed through the city.

Today I was walking my dog with my full #1700s #jacobite gear on and someone in my apartment complex was curious about #historybounding like “I wish I could dress more than just basic, I wish I knew someone that cool lived here”.

I always love those moments because I get to be like “you can!! Just rid yourself of the belief that you have to dress ‘normal’ and the sky’s the limit!!”
