The "Seven Men of Moidart" is a Jacobite memorial to seven companions who landed with Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745. It originally comprised seven beech trees and was planted in the mid-1800s. There are now rather fewer trees. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/ach

Happy !

This tartan is for the "Cameron of Lochiel."

Among its most notable Clan Chiefs is Donald Cameron, the 22nd Chief of the Camerons, known as "The Gentle Cameron." (Born 1695, died 1748.)

During the of 1745, he fought for the cause of , but showed great mercy to the defeated city of Glasgow, which the city still recognizes today.

The Chief earned the name "Gentle Lochiel" for having spared when the army retreated north, and in gratitude the citizenry decreed that the bells of the should forever be rung whenever his descendants passed through the city.

Recharging both car and mind.

Enjoying reading this book, short chapters about specific women of the '45 (and '15). Not overly academic at all and it‹s cool hearing about how the power dynamics differed in the past.

Mary Gordon was the widow of William Gordon,  sixth Viscount Kenmure.  William was executed at Tower Hill in London for his part in the 1715 Jacobite Rebellion.  After his death,  Mary was left to pick up the pieces of the Kenmure Estates.

Browsing again a supposed ancestor's 1761 after-death inventory, and intrigued by the "tree of the Steuart family" in there. Then there's his list of 40 or so I really should do more with this. He previously owned Bowhill in and Glen in .

In Iceland there is a house named after a (not yet) Lord Dillon who spent a year here in the 1830s. There is a simple and rather sad romantic story connected to the house. It seemed an easy episode idea for my podcast .

Was this gentleman Catholic or Protestant? I ended up digging through , specifically the and the . I had to cut most of it from the episode but I will likely return to the subject in the future.
