I found a curious connection in 1956: That year #LeslieNielsen starred in Forbidden Planet and #JamesDoohan--a WWII infantryman and pilot who a decade later played Scotty on #StarTrek--starred in a Canadian live television play called Flight into Danger; the following year, it was remade a few times, including into a 1957 feature film called Zero Hour!, which was parodied in the 1980 film Airplane!, starring Leslie Nielsen.

Also, before creating Star Trek, #GeneRoddenberry had been an airline pilot for #PanAm and in 1947 crashed in the Syrian desert.
