Finally finished listening to all 11 hours of The Pirate Planet audiobook. Jon Culshaw's reading is excellent and he does great Doctor, K9, Captain and Mr Fibuli voices. James Goss's adaptation of Douglas Adam's earlier drafts involves some fascinating changes but the constant diversions into silly commentaries is all very Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Alongside watching The Pirate Planet, I've also been listening to the audiobook of James Goss's novelisation.

There are some quite big changes (the Mentiads have become The Mourners and have an elderly woman at their head, for example) but there are also subtle differences which often involve Goss reinstating cut dialogue. The production notes on the DVD often detail these cuts so it's quite interesting hearing them in context.
