It's finally hair time for all of the plushies... should we give Con just a mustache, or a full scruff beard? #jammakesplush
In this edition of #jammakesplush , all of the plush lads have heads!!
I forgot to take pictures before attaching Izzy's face, but I think they all look super cute so far. I love seeing the final size difference between the big ones and the little ones :blobcatsnugs:
The hair is always a hassle, but it's next... I have to figure out how to handle Stede's hair, though ๐
We officially have heads!! (On the smaller plushies, at least)
The head shape is still a bit more triangular than I might like, but considering i eyeballed the pattern without any reference to what I did last time, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out! Now I just have to figure out expressions and hair, and the plushies themselves will be done ๐ฅฐ
Honestly not sure what style of facial hair/hairstyle to use for the Con plush... Any suggestions to differentiate from Izzy?
Tiny Cooper for the tiny Con plush is complete!! Since I've never needle felted before, I wasn't sure how it would go, but even though I only watched a 10 minute tutorial before starting, I'm still really happy with the results!! It's a little fuzzy looking, but that's okay ๐ฅฐ
#jammakesplush
The bodies are done!!
... Yes I ended up making another tiny one. No I will not explain why (because it was a stressful weekend and I wanted to sew but I didn't want to start working on the heads yet).
Since I have three smalls, I'll now be making a Con for Con, an Izzy for Con's handler, and an Anton or a Stede for Rhys's handler.
Admittedly very nervous to see how my modified head pattern turns out since I didn't make a pattern for the way I modified the last Izzy head ๐
The plushening continues... #jammakesplush journey now has 4/5 bodies complete!!
I put magnets on the front and back side of the large size's hands this time... So they can HOLD HANDS ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ honestly so obsessed with it even though you can't tell that they're linked together in pictures.
Either plush can be the hand on "top" when they're holding hands, too, which I think is absolutely adorable.
The size comparison to the tiny plushies at this point is honestly hysterical ๐
@DarkHorseAsh I hope you are proud of me for making this investment for my #jammakesplush journey ๐ I don't know how much good it will do me since I completely lack any sewing machine experience, but at least I have one now!!
Main plush body 1 of 3 for #jammakesplush is complete!! I screwed up the stitching a bit on the right foot, but it doesn't look too bad.
I fill the legs with beans mostly because this design can get a little back heavy otherwise, so it keeps the plush weighed forward.
You can see in the second photo how the magnets in the hands of the main plush and the back of the small plushest workโbetween two layers of fabric, the magnetic force is only so strong, but it's enough to connect them!
#jammakesplush continues!
I have now completed both tiny plush bodies, added magnets to the back of both bodies so they can either be held by the larger plushies or stuck to a fridge or something.
The bean bags that will weigh down the bottom of the standard size plushies are also complete... Looking at them next to the tiny plush bodies for the small plushies really emphasizes just how small they are :blobcatheart:
Working on the arms for the standard plush bodies next... :blobRave:
One tiny body down, one tiny body and three large bodies to go
As of now, I have cut out all the fabric I need for the dolls themselves, minus the backs of the heads since I'm still waiting on blonde minky for Stede to arrive. I have also sewn one of the bodies for the quarter size plush.
How small is a quarter size? It fits in the palm of my hand! The entire plush will be smaller than just the weighted bean pouch that will lay on the bottom of one of the regular sized plushies. The bean pouch that belongs in the smol plush looks tiny.
So I went back and added a tag for my plush making.
In the next edition of #jammakesplush , we have a multi-part project. I'm making 5 plushies at once. Like a masochist.
I am making an Izzy for myself since Con has the last one I made, along with 2 Stede'sโone for Rhys and one for myself. I'm also making two 1/4 size plushies. One is going to be a Con plush for Con's Izzy plush because the loop amuses me. The other will be either an Izzy for Con's handler or an Anton for Stede
In the end, he took ~40 hours, but I'm happy with the final product, and seeing how surprised Con was by him made it all worth it.
I might make a Stede doll for NYCC to give to Rhys, since I don't think it would take so long now that I've done it once. A lot of time was wasted on the scrapped embroidery face, so I could maybe get Stede done in 20-25 hours. I might try to document this better.
Hopefully this counts for #talenttuesday ๐ ๐
@IzzyCanyon
The clothes I made were all removableโthe shirt fastened with Velcro, the vest with buttons, and the pants were elastic. The glove had elastic sewn into it to hold it in place. The ring was made using one of those pens that does 3D printing using filaments... Honestly really simple and poorly done, but it worked for my purposes.
He has magnets in both hands so he can hold his sword. I was going to make more magnetic accessories, but didn't end up having time.
Version 2 is the version I ended up giving Conโthe face is more simplistic, using felt rather than embroidery, but I still think it turned out much cuter. I also reshaped the head completely because the head shape on the pattern I bought just felt a little too alien/creature-like to me... Which is fair since it was a pattern for a creature plush ๐
Figuring out the hair was interesting, but I just laid out what I wanted on paper to draft my own pattern for that.
I don't have a sewing machine. Which made all of my con prep interesting. I had to do alterations to my own cosplay, make parts of my husband's cosplay from scratch, make clothes for Izzy, and create the doll itself all with hand sewing, which was an endeavor and a half.
My first draft of the Izzy plush was going to have an embroidered face despite my lack of an embroidery machine, because i thought that was doable/a good idea for some reason. It didn't go well.
There are too many people I know and love and respect for me to listen them all for #canyoncononmastodon 's #talenttuesday. Rather than struggling to do that and dealing with the guilt after, I'm going to showcase a talent that I've used for fandom stuff but not showcased very muchโsewing.
As you can tell by my PFP, you can see that I made an #IzzyHands plush to give to #cononeill at Supercon. What that photo doesn't show is that the plush was completely hand sewn.
