Rewriting our research methods content for undergraduate Speech and Language Therapy course. Definitely want to move away from SPSS. Don't have large amount of teaching time. Need students to have confidence in descriptive and basic inferential stats skills. Considering jamovi. Thoughts??? 🙏🏻

Methinks, it is more like a competitor to #RKWard, #JASP, #Jamovi, #Rcmdr, #Rattle, #Deducer #AnalyticFlow {FLOSS & free of charge} or #bluesky, {commercial} than to #RStudio.

RStudio is more an IDE than a GUI. Tools like RKWard are both.

#Jamovi is a statistcal spreadsheet run on top of R and a better alternative to costly statistical products like SPSS.

So, after reading the documentation, I discovered that jAMM (#Jamovi) and @JASPStats
both use the same R package, lavaan (for estimating latent variables in SEM models).

Is anyone else having trouble installing packages from the library in #jamovi at the moment? I've been getting weird connection timeout errors since yesterday.

@Mattalica1972 @juliafstrand I'm so glad to hear it. A colleague once suggested to me that it was ethically questionable to train students on software that they wouldn't be able to afford when the left the university. I know that #rstats is free, and it's what I use in my own work, but #jamovi is so easy and accessible that it's a mistake NOT to use it.

@bartonpoulson @juliafstrand -- Our uni does not provide licenses for students to have #spss, so if they wanted to use it they either needed to use a Uni computer or buy it themselves. #jamovi solved the issue.

@juliafstrand -- We recently moved from SPSS to JAMOVI for undergraduate stats teaching. The size of the classes (500+) and massive range of abilities led us away from trying to teach them to program in R
