's last book, free courtesy of @gutenberg_org . Loved the humanity and humour, although in the gallery of sparkling characters, including the narrator Anne, is it just me or is Captain Wentworth a bit of a cipher? @bookstodon

I can just see the modern adaptation of Northanger Abbey coming together. There’s a scene here with a young man telling Catherine all about his carriage, asking her if she likes an “open carriage”, and promising to take her for a drive in his. This is just a man telling a woman about his car and asking if she likes riding in convertibles.

I thought I might read/reread Jane Austen’s novels. I decided to start with Northanger Abbey, which is one her books that I have not previously read. I chose to read it first, because though it was published posthumously, it was written before her other novels.

I've just learnt there is a monthly book club near me. I have a very strong love of Jane Austen Books (except for Northanger abbey and Mansfield park). Part of me wants to go, and meet other Austen obsessives. But part of me is terrified that over discussing it, and hearing other's opinions, might ruin Austen on me forever.

Advice?
