What if we looked at not as a potential superhuman in good or bad, but as a social tool?

As a way computers would be more usable? Including to those currently wary/unable to use them?

As a way to remix existing human knowledge according to our wishes? And with a possibility to reimburse those providing the patterns used in this mixing process?

Ah, what then?

@evanengel @Rushkoff talks about just that in today:
"a very different world could unfold where if a bot relied on your reporting, you get payment for it, and there is a shared sense of responsibility and liability where everything works better. The term for that is data dignity.”

is the idea that if a bot relies on your reporting, you should keep track of where the sources came from. This would create a shared sense of responsibility and liability where everything works better. A very different world could unfold where if an AI bot relied on your reporting, you get payment for it.

Mah guru, His Holiness , doth speak on and sundry other matters...

"He says comparing ourselves with AI is the equivalent of comparing ourselves with a car. 'It's like saying a car can go faster than a human runner. Of course it can, and yet we don't say that the car has become a better runner.'"

Las redes sociales te están convirtiendo en un idiota

Permítete que reformule el título de esta razón. Yo no te conozco.

I seem to be fascinated by the early human history of Silicon Valley, starting with the movie "Steve Jobs," (the Fassbender one, not the other one), the memoir "Small Fry," by Steve Jobs's daughter Lisa, some stuff w/in the books of my current intellectual crush , and I am about to order "Remember What the Dormouse Said," by John Markoff. I'm sure there is lots more to learn, and more books to read ...

Good, kind of shiver-inducing gossip via in "Who Owns the Future?"

... "historian George Dyson has written that a Google engineer once said to him: "We are not scanning all those books to be read by people. We are scanning them to be read by an AI." (this gossip was published in 2013, and I find it somehow chilling)

The big question of 2023 (and likely beyond) is: How do we compensate the people who create/sort/refine the data behind ?

That's the subject of a lawsuit brought by artists:

AND the frustration behind a drive at :
theverge.com/2023/2/14/2359923

& @Rushkoff have written great books on this subject. My analysis here:

This line from "Who Owns the Future?" ...

"Technologists repeatedly apply the extreme efficiencies of large networks in some areas of endeavor in such a way that the sources of value, whatever they may be, *are left more off-the-books than they used to be,* but we end up in control of the server that runs the scheme ..." e.g., music, lots of types of written/spoken "content," also hospital management, & c. ...

Yesterday, home in bed, I read “Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now,” by Jaron Lanier. Ack!!! I am still processing but I am pretty convinced by this deceptively cheerful piece of lucid analysis of the economic penury already here and to come from certain kinds of “tech.”

No need to watch the video itself, it's just about the audio presentation.

Not sure that every single thing said by is to necessarily be taken at 100% face value, but it sure raises a lot of which we are in need of reflecting on today (and will be tomorrow).

Video playback starts at 13:42
