In my back yard this morning, a collared peccary, aka #javelina, just walked right up beside me. He was pensive but not aggressive. I sat on the porch and watched for about 20 minutes, and then he disappeared into the desert. My guess is 45 lbs. #tucson #sonorandesert

As the tag implies, those tracks are from Javelina.

Imagine a large wooly rat that smells awful with a porcine nose and mouth, dainty pointed hooves (those tracks are perhaps an inch (25mm) in diameter), and which has razor sharp tusks, which it will aim at things it can't quite see, (everything). Those tusks are sharp enough to tear bodywork off a car if they charge it en masse.

Because there are multiple tracks, these are females and young, the males typically live on their own.

The javelinas here are fairly tame. I counted 18 of them tonight, but I may have missed a few. There are a bunch of little babies and they are soooo adorable! They're fun to just sit and watch.
