i've tried multiple times over the last 2 years in c-ent fandom to explain the impact of #JayChou in the sinosphere, but it's always so hard and feels incomplete. it's comparatively easy to talk about his cultural impact in the musicology and sociological senses - jay chou used rap in a way that felt authentic and real, not just as something 'cool' from the west that mandopop was importing over to make the music sound hip;
