#JayHaley said that #MiltonErickson viewed interpretations in #therapy as disrespectful to the client. It was central to #strategic #hypnosis #psychotherapy that if the client communicates indirectly, the #therapist should engage with that material indirectly. I like framing this as respect for the client but find it counter-intuitive. My default has been the opposite; that saying (kindly) what I think is more respectful.
