Bill Johnson, who played with the Original Creole Orchestra and King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, among others, claimed to have invented the New Orleans slap style of string bass playing, and he may well have.

Due generazioni non li dividevano. Dexter Gordon e Louis Armstrong sono stati colleghi e amici. Sapevano anche come divertirsi, quando erano insieme.

Someone asked me about Louis Armstrong in Egypt.
I haven't been able to find any audio from his tour there in 1961, so it's not something I'd spend much time on in a radio show focusing on the music.
However there are loads of wonderful photos and lots of information. Check out this web page by Armstrong scholar Ricky Riccardi:

This #album, with a generic title like Café Deluxe Chill-Out Lounge Jazz, is comicly awful.
The track selection, song order, the mixing, the post-edit beeps and boops and room echo (enhanced reverb), all screams of Modern Sound ™️ without the prerequisite understanding of... anything #music, let alone #jazzhistory or possible future incarnation. It's hilarious because whomever made this Had The Answer and listened to not one of the people who dared speak up, and ignored everyone else.

I'm doing the first show on Armstrong alternative takes and remakes. I realized that in over 40 years in radio, I'd never done a show focusing on that.
I still haven't decided on anything for the second show, open to suggestions.

I'm going to be recording two radio shows, 2 hours each, about Louis Armstrong for next month.
Any suggestions about topics related to Armstrong you'd like to hear in a radio show?

I read people saying "Geez, I'm afraid America might be becoming fascist!" and I sort of think, "You mean the America that arrested Billy Holiday in the hospital and chained her to her bed until she died? That America?" and I think geez that would sure be terrible if that ever happened to America. #america #jazzhistory #fascism

@Andylikesguitars There are a few more rows of tables and a bar behind me that you don't see in the pic. But yes, it is small. You walk through the door, under that awning, and descend down a steep dark, dank stairwell to the club in the basement. It's all part of the atmosphere. You can feel the ghosts of Trane, Monk, Miles, Rollins in the room. #VillageVanguard #jazz #jazzhistory

History of #Jazz: Jimmy Zito: Young Man With A Horn
Zito's name is probably not a familiar one to you. Zeets, as he was known, was one of the elite West Coast studio trumpet players in the 1960s and 1970s, but his career had begun in Chicago in the late 1930s. #jazzhistory
