Even tussen door, maar wel on-topic voor vanavond. Veel veganisten en vegetariërs weten dit niet en ik kan dit niet genoeg herhalen.

De Nederlandse producent van vleesvervangers #Vivera is in 2021 door werelds grootste vleesverwerker #JBS overgenomen. Dat is natuurlijk al voldoende reden om Vivera in de schappen te laten liggen.

Er is meer. JBS komt uit #Brazilië en is uiteraard grote vrindjes met grootgrondbezitters en ja, #Bolsonaro. Je verwacht het niet /i, maar JBS is hoofdverantwoordelijke voor grote vernietiging van de #Amazone. Ze konden onder het presidentschap van Bolsonaro volledig hun gang gaan, incl. deals met criminele bendes. Denk echter niet dat ze onder #Lula of #Rousseff hard werden aangepakt, want de macht van JBS en grootgrondbezitters is gigantisch. Het zou mij ook niet verbazen dat JBS achter het gebeuren in #Brasilia zit.

Alle reden dus om een grootschalige boycot van Vivera te beginnen! Ik doe dat al sinds 2021, dus join me!

I'm listening to a 1978 interview of Susan Sontag by Studs Terkel on the topic of Illness as Metaphor.

At 39 minutes, Sontag notes that the extreme right has long been occupied by medical quackery:

"Laetril has very much been taken up by the John Birch Society."

She and Studs also talk about the morality and moralisation of illness, notably (at the time) TB and cancer.
