What an amazing first, silent 10 minutes. I can't imagine having been able to watch this in the theater. And the Castel sisters' outfits!

Jean Rollin’s Lost in New York (1989), a precursor to his excellent Two Orphan Vampires (1997). This is a movie obsessed with time and with the pop culture of the past that Rollin loved.

There are two girls, lost in time and unable to find each other.

Subtle surrealism, dream-like, haunting. Brilliant movie.

Killing Car (1993), a very odd untypical Jean Rollin movie, but a very good and interesting one. An Asian woman has a car and a gun and she makes use of both. She goes on a killing spree.

There's Rollin surrealism here, but it's a gritty scuzzy harsh surrealism.

Rewatched THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTED and will now be on a mission to introduce Jean Rollin films to the French learning curriculum. Found it very easy to understand most with little need for subtitles as his dialogue directing style is always very calm, slow and well pronounced.

You might expect a straightforward erotic horror movie. If so you’re going to become very disoriented very quickly. Rollin was a surrealist. I don’t mean he just used surrealist images and techniques to add atmosphere. This movie is surrealism all the way through.

Welcome to Rollin's sodden, poetic imagery & melancholic vampires. Iron Rose doesn't feature any fanged creatures though. It tells young lovers on their first date, ending up in a large cemetery. They get lost their way in the dark. The girl, who slowly gets to discover beauty in death, dances on the graves all night & decides to stay behind. No blood, no guts, no real violence, just primary colors of the couple's shirts & flowers. But it's really gorgeous. My fav Rollin. #JeanRollin #horror

My latest folly is upgrading my entire collection of Jean Rollin's films from DVD to Blu-Ray.

I don't normally do this (I'm not obsessed with the Blu-Ray format) but the DVDs are from the early DVD era. And we are talking about Jean Rollin, just about my all-time favourite film director.
