#Indonesia's #JETP promises $20bn in financial support along with capacity building and knowledge transfer. It aims to bring emissions down, accelerate the country’s net-zero target forward by ten years and promote renewable energy use.

However, a major coal producer 🇮🇩 might turn to coal gasification, consuming nearly as much coal as plants do. There’s also a lack of development of solar, wind, and other renewables.

Germany's energy commitment in Senegal should therefore be limited exclusively to renewables (#JETP): a dirty gas deal would not be responsible - and it would undermine Germany's future credibility when it comes to climate policy.

The Senegalese state plans to convert the coal plant into a gas plant in the future. But the people in Bargny are sceptical and do not see gas as a supposedly clean bridging technology. Future energy partnerships with 🇸🇳 should thus exclusively enhance renewables! #JETP

A #JETP is also planned between Senegal and Germany, among others. However, Germany's energy commitment in the country is not limited to renewable energies, but also aims at promoting fossil infrastructures - particularly in order to secure natural gas imports to 🇩🇪.

The Just Energy Transition Partnerships (#JETP) are probably one of the most important long term consequences of the Paris Agreement & the global climate negotiations in general. Their successful implementation is the circuit breaker for further increases in global CO2.

The #G7 Initiative "Just Energy Transition Partnerships" #JETP is a good example of how to productively compete with #China's #BeltandRoad, promoting the #decarbonization agenda, in a way that does not force countries such as #Vietnam, #Indonesia and #SouthAfrica to choose sides.
