After posting that 1920s ad for Pesach foods, I recalled this 1923 article from a Yiddish newspaper, about how some affluent assimilated Jews had stopped buying #Pesach foods from Jewish small businesses and instead ordered from department stores whose delivery wagons wouldn't tip off the neighbors that they were #Jews buying #Jewish products.

one of my favorite songs as a kid, remembering sitting in my grandma's kitchen, and she would be using her old wooden bowl (I still have it!) and blade to make her charoses
well my soup is cooking (matzoh balls to come), brisket is in the oven, meringues baked last night
now I have to make charoses, chop chop chop!

I found this ad by chance today in the 4/18/1929 issue of the NEW YORK JOURNAL. Check out the prices!
By then, some assimilated New York Jews who didn't want neighbors to know they were Jewish started ordering Seder necessities from department stores instead of Jewish-targeted businesses, since a Macy's van parked outside was "neutral."

The French Jewish artist Alphonse Jacques Lévy (1843-1918) often drew, painted and sculpted scenes of the Alsatian Jewish world of his youth.

This design is from the Bible when Moses asks the Egyptian Pharoah to let his people go as they were slaves. Pharoah relents after 10 horrible plagues. This story is recounted ever year at Passover. The words became a spiritual song, used by others who sing for their freedom.
