ages ago, at a Victory Music open mike, the mc was a gal named Barbara. she strummed an autoharp and sang a nice old folk tune. introduces a few acts, and then announces she’s going to play an Irish jig on said autoharp.
I’m thinking, “Sure you are.”🙄
she puts on fingerpicks and proceeds to absolutely crush it. I bruised my chin when my jaw dropped to the table.
now I just wait for folk to play. or rest my chin on my hands.

This was not a professional recording setup and just a quick run-through of the tune, so you get to hear my fingers add a bit of percussion on the fretboard, etc.

I’ve been playing through a couple more jigs on trombone. It’s been fun to try these out. I set the Monaghan Jig in E flat, and it works pretty well in that key for the range on trombone. I’m not really playing them at the speed a fiddler would play them (not even close!), but it’s been a good learning exercise. I’d like to play a couple of slip jigs, too (9/8 time). I think “Rocky Road to Dublin” and “The Butterfly” are pretty common.

Spent the morning #woodworking in the shop, which mostly consisted of thinking, then building a #jig to drill holes for quarter inch (6mm) dowels which will align the vertices of my 5-sided socket caddy, because I could not think of a way to clamp it such that it would both be symmetrical and held together. There are guides on the back of the jig for alignment. Each of the 5 flat faces, and 5 angled “corners,” had two ½ inch deep holes drilled in them. I can clamp with rubber bands now.

I made a tapering jig for my table saw today. I got tired of making one-off jigs every time I needed to taper a table leg. This one is fully adjustable and first cut on a scrap 2x2 cane out perfect!

Saint Sister are wonderful musicians, though their style can be a bit too twee for me. Here they push up to that line, but Junior Brother pulls them in a bit, and in any case it helps bring out the toothache-y nostalgia in the song.
Then the trio do a great version of Morrison's.
