It seems #MercedezBenz is planning a baby #GWagen #EV. #Suzuki better hurry with their #Jimny EV. MB has a head start in EV technology. Most of the Japanese car makers are going to be in trouble in the near future.
Personally I feel #Suzuki’s EV efforts would be better spent speedily executing the Jimny programme, rather than faffing around with the uninteresting #eVX and dealing with #Toyota in the process. An affordable Jimny EV would fly off the shelves.

Finally test drove the #Jimny - the 4WD from Maruti everyone was waiting for.
Short review:
1. Height and Length are all good. The problem is the width. WIDTH. IS. TOO. NARROW. This is the biggest red flag which broke it for me in the first sitting. The narrow width results in constrained sitting area in the front seats. The front seats are otherwise comfortable.
2. Under-thigh support in rear seats is abysmal. Combined with the narrow width, results in Jimny not being a practical 4 seater. It is a practical 2 seater only. Anyone buying the jimny should plan on removing the back seats and using it as a additional boot space.
3. Ride was not smooth in the city and definitely bumpier. This is understandable because of the 4WD aspirations.
4. Steering wheel is hard to turn. This is because electronic steering only kicks in after 40kmph. So this is definitely NOT a city car.
5. Turning radius is bigger than expected. Again, not a city car.
6. Wheels look ok. People have complained them being too tiny, but felt fine to me.
7. There is no waiting list. You can get one, if you want it that is, in under a month. Price is 16L on road in Bangalore for the base version.
8. Interiors is fine. Not too bad overall.
Verdict: Jimny will be big failure for Maruti. Seems like Maruti has lost the golden touch. Jimny is priced too high. Is two seater only. And too narrow to be comfortable for anyone. Makes zero sense to plonk down 16 lacs.

Add to that it is already limited in payload, and is that EV batteries to get 400km weight more, which will further reduce range, it could be a zero-benefit upgrade.
You can’t charge it overnight when you are camping in the middle of the bush.

The #Jimny has a chassis which would allow packing batteries around it, and the 5 door version is longer than the e-Up. That’s assuming #Suzuki makes no design changes. Admittedly aerodynamics are worse. I think 350–400 could be a reasonable target without too high costs. I could live with that (though I’ve found 500km to be the sweet spot).

#jimny launch price is disappointing for sure. The lowest end version comes to around 15 Lakhs on-road. This is too high for most people.

This is a vehicle I really want, especially at those kinds of prices, but emissions regulations killed it in the EU. Suzuki has all but revealed an #EV version is in the works but I’m guessing that is years away.
