stephanie sterling released a jimquisition episode about EA holding the license to the Alice video game franchise out of use, and how the original developer can't even make a new Alice game as a result. it's a very good video and it's another tally mark in the wall of ways intellectual property and the corporate media publishers it exists for suppresses art.

having a monopoly right to an idea is bad enough, but refusing to do anything productive with it when developers want to do so, or trapping it in a cycle where it changes hands between the same billion-dollar publishers is deeply stupid.

TL;DR: Playing the game doesn't make you a transphobe but you cannot play it and claim to be an ally to trans people.

It's not hard to not buy a game that funds and publically endorses the world's most famous person cheerleader for genocide of trans people.

You can come up with a million justifications for funding and endorsing her years long campaign of hatred and violence.

But in the end, it's not hard to not buy a game.

The fact that those funding and publically endorsing someone who's made spreading hatred and genocidal rhetoric her whole life, and who is unfortunately highly successful in those efforts, are the ones claiming that they are being bullied for their public funding and endorsement actions is par for the gaslighting course.

I usually say that every ounce of anger from #Jimquisition is justified, but in this case I feel like she could have been a least a few more notches angrier and still be justified:

It's an actually good point that when the layoffs of the scale that has been happening now (the video focuses on Microsoft) it's very rare that the ones getting fired are referred as "people". It's a small thing, but language matters and we really should demand this from the more traditional news outlets as well.
