According to Steinman, the song was inspired by #WutheringHeights, and was an attempt to write "the most passionate, romantic song" he could ever create. #TheSundayTimes posits that "Steinman protects his songs as if they were his children". #MeatLoaf had wanted to record the song for years, but Steinman saw it as a "woman's song". Steinman won a court case.

As a huge fan of Jim Steinman’s writing, I was shocked to hear this version of A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste by Pandora’s Box. It predates the Meatloaf song by years and is beautiful, stunning and deserves a proper release.
