"#JoanAiken was born on September 4th 1924 in a haunted house named after astrologer Samuel Jeake (who was supposed to have built a flying machine) in a street named after a mermaid whom Mr Jeake may have rescued from an angry mob in his flying machine…"

'Jane Fairfax', one of #JoanAiken's companion novels to #JaneAusten's works ('Emma' this time) as described by @LizzaAiken – now available in Kindle, though I've still to tackle my hardback copy. 😐 Hmm, 2024 will be the centenary of Joan's birth ... https://wp.me/p3dxSy-1mR

Though #JoanAiken died 19 years ago today, on 4th January 2004, she still inspires and gives comfort to readers.

Last night's reading. I loved the Joan Aiken - original entertaining fairy tales. I don't know why I hadn't read it before! A German Christmas was a fun read but there's no history or introduction to the excerpts which would have made it a more interesting read. Lovely cover tho.
