You can see the previous condition of #JoaquinMiller road in this 1947 aerial map. It used to be a winding hill road. It was straightened and widened in this 'parkway treatment,' and now cars go too fast up and down it.

Here's a holiday gift, from me to you. These are 1947 aerial photos of my neighborhood in #Oakland, circa #JoaquinMillerHeights, near #Montclair, #Redwood and #JoaquinMiller #Parks. I've georeferenced them on a modern map, then exported them for you to view, here:

The #maps are BIG. They are SLOW to load. You can choose which layers to render with the tool in the top right. If your internet is slow, or you're on mobile, I'm sorry, this may not be the best experience.

There was also an old road which connected 35th/Redwood with the #JoaquinMiller Heights neighborhood, from this 1952 map, before #HolyNamesUniversity was built. There's also a historical marker for the old Redwood road near the entrance to Holy Names. My theory is that this is one of the original connectors, from the 1850s #redwoods to the Oakland wharves. #Oakland #History #OaklandHistory
