I always feel like I'm terrible at #JobInterviews -- mainly because I'm nervous, I get flustered, and I forget things I wanted to say.

HOWEVER, this did not happen during my last interview. Why? It was virtual, and I had a page of notes to remind myself what I wanted to say sitting next to me. It was easy to glance down occasionally and make sure I was hitting my points.

THIS IS LIFE-CHANGING.

@Celeste_pewter Late 80s or early 90s interviewed at a big Boston bank for SW dev job; their practice was to give a battery of tests, but the test they gave me was to sum up lots of large numbers... by hand...

After 5 minutes of it I took the test back out to person and asked if she gave me wrong test for position.

She said no, it's the right one.

I did a few more then took it back out to her: "If this is how you evaluate programmers, I'm not interested in the job" and left.

If you start in a company where they told you in the interview before that they have the focus on SOLID and now you have to realize it is only a practice at the new holy frameworks that they use.

Argh it is hard as new employee to refactor a code from the colleagues which was written some weeks before only to reach the goal of SOLID and the SoC principles.

A little #feedback for people doing #jobinterviews with internal candidates. If you choose to provide your rejected candidates with feedback on how their interview went and things to improve next time, you might want to make sure the feedback you give the the #applicant and their #supervisor who they currently work under isn't contradictory.

Three years back, I had an interview: five tech screens and a "culture fit".

I thought I did very well indeed.

But when they called me back, they asked me to come BACK for two more culture interviews. That this one had raised a red flag about me.

They said that I was "very sarcastic, which may belie a deep cynicism."

After I was done laughing, I declined their second interview request, on the grounds that they were 100% right.

The misogyny, classism and racism is very evident in job interviews with a panel that is not diverse. Many ask questions that reveal class, age, race, etc. These instances cannot be mistaken for a minor error in judgement. Any manager with training would be respectful of their potential employees of color.
