The culture of mastodon is counterintuitive to me. Will it endure with growth?

I’m still unsure of the value or importance of maintaining a public face in social media. The preceding decades suggest it’s a liability for people who aren’t already public figures, or at least might be.

How well do people separate their public and private faces in social media? Does the public persona reentrench a fixed notion of a self?

Should you have multiple purpose specific profiles just to keep things separated? What a hassle! I’d rather just do the things.

I’ll try to strike a path down the middle.
