Growing up, the legacy of #JoeMcCarthy was very prominent in the culture and public consciousness, as was JE Hoover. It was said that ol' Joe saw "a communist under every bed" and it was only when his big-tent of enemies came to outnumber his allies that he was finally undone.
Reminded of this as I see so many uses of f-word and wonder how much feed would be left if I muted "f—ist". If everyone is a communist spy, then no one is and if everyone gets a nuclear epithet, soon enough no one minds.
