John groeit op in een muzikaal nest, met een vader die een opleiding pianist aan Juliard genoot, en zijn moeder die een begenadigd violiste is maar kiest voor een leven als huismoeder.
Als zijn ouders scheiden verhuist hij naar LA en wordt ondergedompeld in de punk rock scene onder invloed van zijn stiefvader en op zijn 9de geraakt hij in de ban van #TheGerms, en vanaf zijn 11de van Zappa en begint gitaarles te volgen.

Mede-oprichter van post-hardcore band #Fugazi, samen met #IanMacKay in 1987.
Hij richt ook het platenlabel Tolotta records op.
In 2002 Richt hij het project #Decahedron op, en start een band met #JohnFrusciante en #JoshKlinghoffer als #Ataxia.
In 2006 brengt hij een soloalbum uit waarop hij alle legendes uit de DC hardcore scene op samen brengt.
In 2016 richt hij #TheMessthetics en in 2018 de band #Coriky, terug met bloedbroeder Ian MacKay.

Eerste cd #TheMadcapLaughs van #SydBarrett en daarna #ToRecordOnlyWaterForTenDays van #JohnFrusciante.
Beiden onhoudbaar in hun bands door hun gebruik en beiden maken dan redelijk vage, maar gave albums.

El pibe, con solo 16 años, se había vuelto fanático de la banda. Como consecuencia de esa idolatría que sentía durante los primeros pasos que daban los Red Hot Chilli Peppers entabló amistad con Hillel Slovak, el guitarrista. La repentina muerte de éste, como consecuencia de su adicción a la heroína, le dio la chance de pasar a formar parte del grupo que aceptó sin dudar. Así, de la mano de una desgracia, llegó #JohnFrusciante, que hoy cumple años, a formar parte de los encabezados por Flea y Kiedis.
