what rules list do you use for #johntheripper password cracking? any tips? Looking for 3rd party rulesets, already tried ALL rules that come with #johntheripper

I wanted to try the #ISFCE #CCE computer #forensics certification sample exercise. It involves cracking an Excel 2003 password.

#Gentoo packages #JohnTheRipper 1.7.9. Office 2003 requires 1.8.0.

Found a shady cracking-as-a-service website (https://hashc.co.uk/) which extracted the hash. Tried #Hashcat; it doesn't like AMD cards with Mesa OpenCL.

Ended up spinning up a #Kali VM to run John on CPU only. It took .001 seconds to find the password.

This was not my most productive day.
