Seeing a lot of posts about works entering the public domain in 2023 which only refer to the US - copyright law is different elsewhere. But if I'm reading this correctly, JOSEPHINE TEY enters the public domain in the UK on 13 Feb 2023. I wonder if this means her books will be more widely, and cheaply, republished? Three quarters of the way through The Franchise Affair and easy to see why it's one of her better-known books, though a few things strike me as unusual in her oeuvre: Inspector Grant is a peripheral character, what I assume are Tey's own prejudices are more forthright in the Robert Blair character (politically quite reactionary, critical of left-wing clerics, some people just 'look evil' etc). #JosephineTey #reading #Bookstodon

I think I’ve only got one more Tey to read after this. Enjoying it hugely but slightly frustrated I know the ending from the film adaptation. There was a house with a high wall I used to pass on childhood shopping trips to Bath with my mother and she always said it reminded her of The Franchise Affair.
