Every instance has somebody who manages it, sometimes that's an organization...now I don't think Meta would like to buy #JournaHost, I mean if they wanted to get looked at seriously by journalists, sure, they could do it.

#Mastodon may already be too big, that if they wanted to buy everyone, it would be a lot of people to "buy".

Also how would it happen? Would they try to employ everyone?

At what salaries? Just cause you got money, doesn't mean #InfiniteMoney.

Since Twitter is now "waging war" against #Mastodon a thing #journalists could do this coming week is to use their still existing Twitter accounts to co-ordinate a retaliation as follows:

Choose a big news story.

All write an article on said news story.

Post link to story on Twitter.

Include a link on the page pointing to an exposé of Twitter's suppression of links to Mastodon.

#Twitter users will be shown exactly how they are being kept in the dark about alternatives

Over at the Other Place, I am flipping from 'may or may not be notable' to 'notable' like a pancake at a PTA fundraiser. But I am pleased to announce that here I have been deemed verified - which seriously only means my name is my name and I embarrass my publications out in the open. @mattblaze it is interesting to watch the both-sides press crash with the "no, there's definitely a side, and you're not on it" mastodon folks.

for example: #journahost which seems to be the de facto home for a lot of journalists, is blocked by quite a few instances for platforming hate.

#journahost, the #instance favoured by #journalists, got blocked by many #servers in frustration of this straight import culture from #birdsite & total disregard for the existing #fediculture (see list here: https://fba.ryona.agency/?domain=journa.host). Props to #investigative #journalism network @GIJN for not only reporting the story, but acknowledging there was a #fedi culture to start with.

I was following a couple of journalists on the instance #JournaHost who have since become inaccessible. #admin what happened? Why are they not part of a federated feed?

@alexhammy209 “freeze peach?” Not familiar with the phrase. So #journahost took down an article but has not defederated? Here’s my main concern: On the one hand, I think it’s great for practicing journalists to have a safe home. On the other hand, if most/all journalists are in one spot, it becomes incredibly easy to wipe them all out. Or block/defederate in this case. (Yup, child of Holocaust refugees.)

@alexhammy209 daughter of Holocaust refugee here, so 0 tolerance for Nazi shenanigans. But I’m also a recovering newspaper reporter (and mastodon newb) so have questions. There’s a gal I follow on the bird site who reports on GQP etc. (I don’t know how she manages.) It’s her job. And while I can’t always read everything she reports, I believe the reporting matters. Is that why #journahost affiliated w KF? Is that necessary here? Was it a newb error? Have they defederated?

@arozenshtein @VolokhC this was extremely helpful thank you. I hope we can welcome #journahost back (my instance seems to have blocked them, I think!) as I believe everyone needs to get used to this new world. Clearly Mastodon is a place of tolerance, and I am grateful for that.

@sean I wish that, instead of dismissing, setting up straw persons or focusing on weakest versions of the concerns, people actually listened and responded with empathy. The issue's less about debating fascists and abusive content and more about identifying them, having capacity to act appropriately and how to make things right when inevitable mistakes are made. The #journahost saga showed this is difficult. Pretending it isn't an issue won't make it go away and is quite off-putting.

I appreciate your passion for defending @parkermolloy from discriminatory treatment.

The people with the power to suspend Parker are the server admins, not the majority of people with accounts there, many of whom would be as horrified by this as you are. I suggest that rather than blocking them, you ask them to tell the admins to reinstate Parker's account, or they move to another server in protest.

Silence on #journahost instance for refusal to keep marginalized people safe. May progress to full ban.
