I've added some community copies for my game Last Dispatch, if anyone's curious: https://symboliccity.itch.io/last-dispatch It's a solo journaling game using dice and a standard deck to unravel the last days of a nation. (It was recently in the Indie Bundle for Abortion Funds, so if you donated to that, check your itch library before claiming a copy.) #soloTTRPG #journalingGames
Tonight's writing session will be Be With Me instead of my own creative writing.
@paulczege asked what could be learned from journaling games. For me it's having fun with my writing. I always daydreamed stories and now I'm learning to dream them on paper - #journalingGames really help with that.

Related, the author of #Apothecaria plans to release a new project for #ZineQuest2023 heavily inspired by Becky Chambers' #Wayfarer books and I am SO here for it. #SoloRPGs #JournalingGames

And I haven't even started my first case yet, just a rambling prologue writing my witch's arrival to High Rannoc. And I am enjoying the hell out of it. Just description and feeling and discovery. No one to tell me what it should look like, or how it should progress, just figuring out the atmosphere as I go. #SoloRPG #JournalingGames #Apothecaria

Last year I experimented with #SoloRPG #JournalingGames and really enjoyed it, even though I was a bit fractured and disorganized in my approach. This year I want to get more into it and see what I really enjoy. I started this year with The Last Tea Shop which, while I enjoyed, doesn't have enough variability for me right now. (I'll probably keep at it periodically; it's very portable.) But what I crave is something more detailed, more like Stardew Valley. So, I printed off #Apothecaria. (To be fair, @Blinkie started her game first, and I am using this opportunity to poke her about continuing.)

A KS for a zine about #immersion and #bleed in journaling games? By @paulczege ? That is something you don't want to miss. I don't.

I've played and added games to my collection the past few months, if you haven't checked it recently.
Okay, a third quote from The Ink That Bleeds, because I'm in the throes of it. One thing I write about is about what our unconscious is able to accomplish for us when we do journaling or journal gaming.
10. no #journalingGames yet, but i have a ton of them from the big itch.io bundles of the past couple years, so it's on the agenda.

Now taking recommendations for a journaling game that revolves around conflict with a larger than life villain.

... defeated in a climactic fight, was so mostly off screen the whole time and without much depth and forgettable himself compared to some of the NPCs.

Most memorable monster/villain?
Y'know, for how many journaling games I've played the past year and a half, none of them really featured villains. I got stalked by a dude in one, and killed by a dude in another, but neither was a particularly larger than life villain.
Lots of memorable NPCs in games, but none of them were ever the villains.
Even the villain in the Theatrix game that was so memorable for me, who I...

So what are the rulebooks that you think do the best job of being usable by players. Define that as you will, I’m listing RPGs but don’t limit yourself, self-promote if you want and believe in yourself (and if you don’t, you really should).
For me the top picks are
1. Ironsworn (and I haven’t read Ironsworn: Starforged yet, it I see no reason to think it isn’t even better)
2. The Black Hack 2nd ed
3. Torchbearer 2nd ed
