Perspectives vary—from the point of view of media sociology, I would like to see more deconstruction of the concept of #innovation in #journalism research and a greater awareness that “agile methods“ are not necessarily “good“, but also have something to do with #neoliberalism and the #individualization of responsibility (and failure). Criticize the #lab discourse and think differently about #pioneerjournalism…

I'm glad that there are many prominent journalists posting regularly on #Mastodon. One ask: Could journalists please add verification to their profile (ie. using `rel="me"`). It helps people know that, yes, the account is legit. Second, accounts that use verification will be prioritized in user search once Mastodon v4.2 goes GA.

In June, six months after announcing a partnership deal with a Saudi Arabian government-owned media company, Vice uploaded but then quickly removed a documentary critical of the Persian Gulf monarchy’s notorious dictator, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, or MBS.

The nearly nine-minute film, titled “Inside Saudi Crown Prince’s Ruthless Quest for Power,” was uploaded to the Vice News YouTube channel on June 19, 2023. It garnered more than three-quarters of a million views before being set to “private” within four days of being posted. It can no longer be seen at its original link on Vice’s YouTube channel; visitors see a message that says “video unavailable.” Vice did not respond to a request for comment on why the video was published and then made private or if there are any plans to make the video public again."

While there are certainly members of the journalistic profession who deserve the hack moniker, there are many like Walt that are gifted communicators that provide important service to their communities.

I think we should support great journalists and encourage great #journalism on #Mastodon. Attacking the profession is part of the “alternative facts” folks effort to sow doubt and confusion and degrade public discourse

The NYT has been nearly absent in establishing a presence on other platforms. Now they’re paying the price.

I guess the notion of decentralized #SocialMedia and its virtues is poorly understood or not relevant in #journalism’s movement towards #Threads

Could be that most journalists view #Zuckerburg as a stable if not entirely trustworthy “partner” when compared to #ElonMusk?

I imagine the attraction of an audience reputed to be +100 million has its attractions when compared to #Mastodon’s 2 million.

Tapper declaring that it sounds like the Secretary of State is engaging in drama doesn’t make it true, but it does create plenty of clickbait in the press.

It should always be a red flag when a reporter or a reporter’s actions or statements get more coverage than the actual officials or experts they’re supposedly reporting on.

Sadly, reporters like this have found profit in doing that stuff, promoting drama where it doesn’t exist, and generally misleading news consumers.

If it really sounds to Tapper that #Blinken doesn’t want to risk offending #Musk over #Starlink then I’m thinking Tapper might be in the wrong job, because he seems to be projecting his own drama into the reporting.
