@helenclayton @knittingknots Beautiful images, beautiful descriptions. I learned so much from these.
An abandoned boat wreck has come to rest leaning left on its rusted hull embedded in a low sandbank, with reeds and grasses further to the left, and mud and sand in the foreground. Behind is grey flat water and distant headland under a grey cloudy sky. The boat is mid size with a derelict white cabin, paint peeling and windows gone.
@tonyk451 @mmlopezu @jessicalwarelab @CorrieMoreau @alexwild Hello! And some friendly encouragement: if you add image description to photos you will also welcome the community who use screen readers. Itâs a nice value here, and plenty of screen reader users around to advise on how much or how little to describe. I tend to say a lot about flowers because it makes me look harder. But you could just say âlarge white cactus flowerâ. #JoyOfAltText
Hey @twobraids, I just came across this lovely guide to image description as universal design. (shared by @nellie_m). #JoyOfAltText

In the 30 years that we have lived here, we've cared for 16 abandoned cats. We offered them a deal: they keep the copious rodents under control in the greenhouses, protecting our business' nursery stock. In return we offer room, board, and full healthcare in an idyllic cat playground free of predators.

@Curator I've suddenly had an alt-text epiphany and I'm using alt-text as an exercise in expository writing. I'm trying to remember to tag the best of them with #JoyOfAltText
I traverse the trail between my home in the yurt and the decrepit old original farmhouse many times per day. Years ago, I 3D printed tiny LED light fixtures to illuminate the trail so I wouldn't always have to carry a flashlight. Too many times in my 30 years here, I've inadvertently collided with black cats that do not understand that I cannot see in the dark.

@terrillwelch @ajroach42 This is a gorgeous example of #JoyOfAltText. It was the alt text that showed me the mountains â I was so focused on the wave I just didnât see them. Thank you for sharing your painting.
@twobraids oh Iâm delighted! It really is a joy, turning over an image and finding someone has thought so carefully about the impossible task of conveying what they wanted us to see as they saw it. #JoyOfAltText
@kate @plants I hope you don't mind that I've embraced using your #JoyOfAltText hashtag.
I remember writing classes in school and college, I constantly was told, "too much exposition". It really suppressed my interest in writing. I suddenly feel released from bondage.
I really want higher character count limits.
Back in 2019, when rambling through the woods looking for interesting lichens, moss, or fungus to photograph, Frank the tuxedo cat would often accompany me. I found this scene of tiny mushrooms rising from a dense moss carpet. Frank photobombed my careful camera placement.
There's lots more information in the Alt-Text

@DaNanner âGroup of people individually contemplating going into the oceanâ is a whole world of thing. Living by surf beaches this niche social dynamic is deeply familiar to me. #JoyOfAltText
Having a think about the #JoyOfAltText. My grandmother was a painter of flowers. I grew up with this painterly way of thinking: look deeply and carefully and then try to communicate what you see to someone else. So while I will alt text plainly âTabby cat looking at camera, yawnsâ, when Iâm describing a flower I feel my writing self pick up a paintbrush. I notice other gardeners do the same. @plants
I stood in the orchard last night watching the moon rise.

I've been laying fallen branches on this table for years. The most vibrant of the #lichen and #moss have been here the longest. The battered ones are recent rescues from the orchard.
The second big wave of rain for the season has just begun. All of these interesting creatures thrive in our drenching Oregon rains on a 7â/3â day/night winter cycle.
The atomic age stoneware is just visiting.

@TheShellyTea Sending a note of appreciation for this beautiful alt text. Itâs the frilly dress detail â I noticed it in the image and couldnât think how to describe it. #JoyOfAltText
@twobraids Iâm beginning a new practice of tagging alt text descriptions that have give me great joy, and yours is the second. Itâs the salad plate detail! Curiously the first was also about a cat. #JoyOfAltText
Take a moment to appreciate the poetry of the alt text of Baby Cat from @oedipusnj. Seriously, go look. Has a cat ever been so lovingly described? #JoyOfAltText
