If you’re a product person and are currently practicing your interviewing skills…

I just bought something and you could interview me for practice: a travel pack, I hesitated somewhat before buying, over $100, not a gift.

DM me, boosts appreciated!

"The best for the most for the least" is apparently IKEA's strategy when creating new products.

What does that take?

- A mastery over the materials and their supply chains
- A strong understanding of a buyer's use case, the context in which the product is purchased
- A sullen embrace of constraints

What else?

For anyone wanting to understand a real-life journey, here's one I'm currently on:

For some reason, I am hungry for good novels. I'm investing time, but more importantly mental energy on that conquest.

The initial struggle that got me on that path: I had problems getting to sleep because my head was too active. That was several years ago.

I'm clearly pining for _progress_.

You'd however be mistaken to try to sell me a book. I think there's a different ...

Thinking about Mastodon from a framing and the four forces of switching, part of the PUSH away from the old (i.e. Twitter) may be if/when there is a large-scale outage.

A lot of Twitter users will immediately seek alternative means to share/comment/argue about whatever is conversation is “right now”.

Over the last 10 weeks, I've been helping an engineer learn Jobs-To-Be-Done.

He was reading the book "Competing with Luck", and each week I'd send him an article from sharpen.page/articles to complement.

I'm looking for the next engineer to help on this journey. Each Friday PM for 10 weeks, one article per week plus some discussion over iMessage/Signal.

Free, but just for one person. Boosts appreciated!

Listening to the Mixergy podcast where @mijustin is being interviewed about Transistor.

Andrew (the host), about how Justin and Jon wanted to stay a small, calm company:

"That's one of the things that scared me off of [using Transistor to host my podcast]. I thought: these guys are just keeping it too chill, everyone else is gonna out-feature them"

Fear of being "out-featured" by competitors is WAY overplayed among product people.

Check out this innovation! A two spouted-bottle!

Sometimes, when we invent new tech, we turn to something like this bottle’s second spout: it works, but it’s off-putting, inelegant, of poor taste.

But I’m more concerned with all the times we filter our innovations for elegance over practicality, because we constrain our thinking.

That’s why I’m digging coming to places like this. You don’t see weird innovations like this in North America.

I've talked about using Github's Copilot for development here: netapinotes.substack.com/p/wha

I also took for a quick walk around a design-first, workflow with surprising results: ://netapinotes.substack.com/p/the-thing-about-using-chatgpt-for
