One interesting point of convergence is that most modern Jews, from Reform to Modern Orthodox, agree that we no longer live in communities where halakhah is enforceable. In that sense, halakhah is all personal autonomy. Any Jew - even Orthodox, "could" work on Shabbat, eat pork, or not daven daily prayers. That's genuine autonomy. The difference comes in our theology, and what practices we feel are obligatory based on those beliefs.

The original and in some ways still common classic Reform Jewish about the Talmud is shown in these quotes (see image.)

Note that since the 1970s there has been a pro-Talmud, return-towards-tradition wing of Reform, like @TheRaDR and many other Reform rabbis. There was an amazing Reform rav near me until a few years ago who did writings on the Talmud and encouraged more observance and belief.

I’ve spent so long reading about Conservative Judaism that now I realize I don’t know enough about Reform/Liberal Judaism. I’m particularly confused by the position on Halacha and I think I need to shift my thinking about it because the aspect I liked most in Conservative Judaism is the link to the written texts (I guess I see responsa in a bit like articles with citations ).

But in terms of social action and me it does seem Reform suits better? Help!
