Skylar Gering discusses SubZero.jl, a package to simulate ice flows which is soon to be released. Shown are two simulations. One, on the right, contains 4 islands which are missing on the left. Despite being barely visible they clearly obstruct flow. The islands are present on the real Earth. #julialang #juliacon #climate
Simon Byrne, CliMA lead programmer, discusses extending Julia's broadcast operator for best performance of Earth system models on GPU clusters. I imagine, or perhaps hope, this is another emerging design pattern for climate modeling.

[Chris Rackauckas](https://youtu.be/vG6ZLhe9Hns?t=4870) discusses symbolic numerics in scientific computing. To paraphrase, " "It's all transformations of code, whether procedural (as in numerics) or symbolic (as in math.)" #juliacon #julia #sciml #climate

Lovely blog post by @cormullion on the JuliaCon 2023 experience https://cormullion.github.io/pages/2023-08-08-juliacon2023/.
So grateful for the opportunity to present MultilayerGraphs.jl in such a wonderfully organized conference with so many brilliant people! :julia::

[Simon Byrne](https://youtu.be/vG6ZLhe9Hns?t=11149), CliMA program lead, said that CliMA's *main thrust* is to incorporate data and ML into climate modeling, but his talk is about overriding the Julia "broadcast" operator, which applies a function to an array, to enable threads running on the same GPU to use that GPU's shared memory. This makes sense when "threads" represent adjacent grid cells. #juliacon #julia #climate
Do you live in #helsinki area and are sad you couldn't make it to @juliacon2023 ?
No problem! Juliacon magic (and stickers) are coming to Helsinki!
Save the date: Julia Users Helsinki meetup -- Greetings from JuliaCon edition, 30th August 2023!

JuliaCon 2023 talks have begun to appear on YouTube. [Ocean Robots](https://youtu.be/gpo1FUXCcJE?t=9324) had terrific visuals made with Makie and Pluto and showed that ocean data is very accessible via api. #Julia #juliacon #climate
On my way back from #juliacon I stopped and the harvard coop and found this very interesting little book. I didnt know about #reverse #mathematics, but I find the topic very interesting and well fitting my research interests.

Goodbye Boston, and #juliacon! The weather here is preparing me well for the flight back to England - thunderstorms and rain!

The crowd at JuliaCon shows that Julia is no longer a niche language.

Being at #JuliaCon is already crazy because like every third badge is a name I recognize from GitHub or Slack or whatever
I can only assume that this t-shirt is intended to make the wearer more attractive.
Family road trip to #juliacon has arrived in Newport, RI. Tomorrow: Cambridge, MA
